Today the European Team Championships opened in Vaasa and already on the first day we had the pleasure to witness a new Finnish national record.
Samuel Purola continues to impress. Again he managed to run a Finnish national record. Purola ran 20.85 in the trials of 200m and the wind was zero. This is 11 hundredths better than his previous record, which he ran one week ago in Kuortane. Now he has improved the record for 17-year old twice this season. The 17-year old runner from Oulu has also improved the Finnish national record for 17- and 19-year olds in 100m three times this summer.
- This race felt better than in Kuortane but I can still improve the time, says Purola.
Purola was second in his heat and is ready for the final in 200m. He had the fourth best time in the trial where David Lima from Portugal was the fastest with 20.67 in tail wind.
- ”I had to take it easy in the beginning of the race since my legs were cramping when I was entering the starting blocks.”
Purola was only two hundredths away from Kimmo Saaristo’s 36-year old record for 19 year olds. Purola thinks tha the can beat that record in the final on Sunday if the weather is warmer than today
